Maplia is a trip planner. You can use it without an account, and we do not sell, rent or share your information for advertising. This page explains what we collect and why. Questions or requests: mapliasupport@gmail.com.
The controller of the information described here is Maplia, reachable at the address above; its full details are given on request.
What we collect
- What you tell the planner: the place, your dates, who is travelling (for example the ages of children), your interests and any note you write. We use it only to make your plan and to find places to stay. Please do not write sensitive personal information (such as health details) in the notes.
- A random device code, kept in your browser's local storage, so that we can apply fair-use limits to the AI planner. It is not linked to your name or e-mail.
- Technical data: your IP address and the requests your browser makes. Our hosting provider processes them to deliver the site and keep it secure, and we keep short-lived counts (up to a day) to stop abuse.
- Display settings (the graphics quality your device settled on), kept in your browser's local storage.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not build profiles about you. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may set a strictly necessary security cookie that tells people from automated traffic.
Who processes it
- Anthropic (Claude): what you tell the planner is sent to Anthropic's API to write your plan and the short descriptions of places. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models.
- Cloudflare: hosting, security and an invisible bot check (Turnstile).
- LiteAPI (Nuitée), when you look for places to stay: your destination, dates and party size, to find available rooms.
- Map and data services your browser contacts directly to draw the map and search for places: OpenFreeMap, EOX, Amazon Web Services (terrain), the U.S. Geological Survey, the Microsoft Planetary Computer, the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons), the OpenStreetMap Foundation (Nominatim, when you press Enter in the search) and Maplia's routing server. They receive your IP address and the area of the map requested, under their own privacy policies.
Some of these providers are in other countries (mostly the United States); they process data under their own safeguards.
How long we keep it
Your plan is not kept on our servers: the answer to an identical request is cached in memory for up to an hour, then deleted. The data about a destination (public places, not personal) is cached for up to a week. Fair-use counters expire within a day. What sits in your browser stays until you clear it.
Your rights
Under the data-protection laws that apply to you, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you may ask to see, correct or delete personal information about you, and object to its use. Write to mapliasupport@gmail.com; we answer within 30 days. You may also complain to the data-protection authority where you live. The legal basis for what we process is providing the service you ask for, and our legitimate interest in keeping it secure.
Children
Maplia is for people aged 16 and over. Parents plan trips for their children; we do not knowingly collect information from children.
